CLASSIC PUB STAY | TOP 5 BEER GARDEN | CLARENCE RIVERSIDE

Arriving at the Ulmarra Hotel by road you’ll clap eyes on this majestic, quintessential Australian pub built on the corner of the aptly named Coldstream & River Streets, during Federation. Arriving by ferry (the car comes too), you’ll sidle up to a fabulous beer garden (voted one of top 5 NSW), that leads into the Ulmarra Hotel with the coldest beers around!

Dine by the curve of the Clarence River before settling at one of the canopied tables with a glass of wine, fizzy or schooner.

This place prides itself on serving really good pub food: throw in real ales, roast lunches in a sublime country setting and you have somewhere very special. And standard pub grub it isn’t!  The Chef spins some magic with a menu that includes “Pappardelle pancetta with confit duck, spinach, pea jus & shaved pecorino” or “Seared scallops with Thai green apple salad and lime chilli dressing?” Toss in a larder full of home-made desserts like Grannie used to make, the Ulmarra is a dining experience you won’t forget anytime soon.

Did we mention affordable? You’d be hard pressed to break a $100 bill for a night, leaving you stacks for the kitchen, bar and local village stores.

You might have driven a long way for your scallops, steak and cold beers, and a stay at the Ulmarra is so convenient. Up to 22 people can join the fun* stay in twin, double, queen and family rooms.

The comfortable, pub-style Family Room accommodates 3 people with a queen bed and a single bed with shared bathroom facilities. Each room has a bedside table, digital TV, towels and linen provided. Free parking is provided for guests.

There’s a clean, simple, and comfortable airiness here. Fresh linen, rooms with feature windows, or a fireplace, each has its own personality. Guests have a birds eye view of Coldstream and Rivers Streets or the Clarence River from the upstairs verandah, so watch out for a Spaghetti Western!!

Your seasoned publican, Dane Baird is one minute greeting guests in his Hi Viz shirt, next minute pulling beers for the eternally thirsty crowd, clearing away plates and keeping a keen eye over his happy crowd, stopping for a yarn. He never stops. Don’t be tempted to ask him if his glass cabinet of fabulous glass antiques are for sale. He’ll quickly nip that one in the bud, with a warning you’ll need to deal with his mother!

Putting on your party boots? Dane offers inside / outside function areas including the whopping great beer garden on the banks of the Clarence. Book your next private room lunch or dinner, wedding, engagement, birthday, celebratory wake or a big night out.

Proximity to Pacific Highway, helps the Ulmarra Hotel serve as the perfect stop after a long day of driving and after a big meal of scallops, steak and cold beers. Who wouldn’t enjoy a comfy bed in a classic Australian pub?  Surrounding this hidden gem are brilliant places and towns to fossick, kayak or canoe or maybe it’s hard enough spending hours in the beer garden after all….
